Key Workers
They’re called key workers
Because they unlock things;
Possibilities, futures, lives.
They’re the keys to the city
The keys to the street
The key to those moments
When life feels incomplete;
And then the bus comes round the corner
There’s a carer at the door
And things are so much better
Than they were before;
And the shop assistant’s smiling
Asking how you feel
And things are so much clearer,
The world begins to heal.
And they’re called key workers
Because they unlock things
Lives, futures, possibilities.
